Nigeria Defeats Egypt 4–2 on Penalties to Claim AFCON Bronze

Nigeria claimed third place at the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt 4–2 in a penalty shootout following a tightly contested goalless draw.

Despite losing to tournament hosts Morocco in the semifinals, the Super Eagles returned determined and went all out in the third-place playoff. Both teams were disciplined throughout the match, but neither could break the deadlock during regulation time.

The outcome was decided by penalties. Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero, saving two crucial spot-kicks. Nwabali later revealed that his plan had been to specifically save penalties from the two world-class Egyptian players, most importantly Mohamed Salah, and he was able to execute it successfully. His performance not only secured the win but also boosts his personal record and confidence.

Forward Ademola Lookman calmly converted the decisive penalty, sealing Nigeria’s 4–2 victory and the bronze medal at the AFCON

The win marks a strong conclusion to Nigeria’s campaign, showcasing the team’s resilience, tactical discipline, and determination. It also sets a positive tone for future continental and international competitions.
