Presidential Helicopter Rescues Flood Victims Stranded on Submerged Car in Mozambique
A swift rescue effort by the Mozambican government has drawn attention after a presidential helicopter evacuated flood victims stranded on top of a submerged car in Manica Province.

The incident occurred as severe flooding continued to batter the province following days of heavy rainfall. Rising water levels overwhelmed roads and nearby communities, leaving several residents trapped with no escape route. In the widely shared video, the victims are seen sitting on top of a nearly submerged vehicle as floodwaters rushed around them.
The helicopter pilot skillfully hovered low over the water, carefully stabilizing the aircraft directly above the stranded victims. Rescue personnel then carried out a delicate operation, bringing each victim into the helicopter one after the other while the car beneath them remained almost completely underwater.
Manica Province is among the regions worst affected by the ongoing floods, with rivers overflowing their banks and major routes cut off. Many residents have been forced to seek safety on rooftops, vehicles, and other elevated structures as water levels continue to rise.
Authorities say rescue operations are ongoing across affected areas, as emergency teams work to reach stranded residents and assess damage to infrastructure. The use of the presidential helicopter highlights the urgency of the situation and the government’s response to the growing humanitarian challenge caused by the floods.
